As the Oceans Luxury Vacations Team walked the beach post, Hurricane Nicole, there was a sense of sadness mixed with pride as we joined with city officials, including our Governor, Ron DeSantis to asses the damage and talk about how to restore our beloved community.
There were spoken and unspoken moments as we all looked along the coastline. Yes, there was much damage – but what stood out was the great effort to get our great city back on her feet. “We will help our coastal communities fully recover from the impacts of Hurricane Nicole,” DeSantis said in a press release.
Today, we are pleased to share that many of the condominium buildings have been officially approved to reopen. Grounds crews, including our maintenance teams, have been working around the clock to clean up debris and get the exterior of buildings looking new again. It will take some time for some properties to have their seawalls and pools restored, but much effort is on its way to get it done safely and in a timely fashion.
FDEP Secretary Shawn Hamilton said, “We look forward to working with the counties impacted by Hurricane Ian and Nicole to restore our beaches.” Governor Ron DeSantis also directed the Florida Department of Environment Protection to use the $20 million to help local governments address dune and beach erosion from Tropical Storms Ian and Nicole, according to a news release. The funds are set aside for emergency sand placement. “This $20 million will address immediate, emergency needs across several storm-impacted beaches while we work to identify additional funding to replace infrastructure and help the area rebuild.”
